FLARAN ABBEY AND SURROUNDINGS
Situated 400m from the Ferme de Flaran, which was a dependency of it, the Cistercian abbey of Flaran is located at the confluence of the Baïse and the Auloue in Valence-sur-Baïse. Founded in 1151 by the monks of the Escaladieu Abbey, it now houses the Gers departmental cultural centre. A historic monument, a visit to the abbey reveals a remarkable complex consisting of a Romanesque church, a Gothic cloister, a chapter house with its marble columns, the prior's flat, the monks' refectory, a cooking area and a charming garden of aromatic and medicinal plants. Two permanent exhibitions, one concerning the pilgrimage routes to Compostela in the Gers, the other on the history of the abbey, add to the discovery of the place.
Located in the heart of the Gers, the Flaran Farm will be the ideal starting point for a beautiful discovery of the treasures of Gascony and the Great Tourist Sites of Occitania under the name "Flaran, Baïse, Armagnac". Close to the Atlantic and the Pyrenees, the Gers is a land of pleasure, a land of soil and tradition.
In the land of Armagnac, bastides, fortified villages, abbeys punctuate the routes of the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage... Condom, capital of Armagnac; the picturesque medieval town of Larressingle where our other establishment, the Auberge de Larressingle, is located; the collegiate church of La Romieu, a jewel of southern Gothic architecture; Auch, the historic capital of Gascony... are just some of the beautiful discoveries awaiting you, not forgetting the numerous hiking trails that will delight nature lovers!
